Privacy policy
Last updated 14 September 2026
This policy explains what personal information 9jaSend collects when you use our website, the 9jaSend app or the 9jaSend Rider app, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We process personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
Information we collect
If you send packages
- Your name, phone number and, if you give it, your email address.
- Pickup and drop-off addresses, and the location you choose on the map.
- The receiver’s name and phone number, so the rider can reach them.
- What you’re sending: package type, description, weight and whether it is fragile.
- Your order history, delivery PINs and payment status.
If you ride with 9jaSend
- Your name, phone number, email address, date of birth and vehicle type.
- Your National Identification Number (NIN), which we verify with a licensed identity provider. We store it encrypted and show only a masked version.
- Your location while you are online, so we can offer you nearby jobs and show customers where their package is.
- Your bank name, account name and the last four digits of your account number, so we can pay your earnings. The full account number is held by our payment provider, not by us.
- Your earnings, payouts, cash collected, reliability score and delivery history.
For everyone
- A device token, so we can send you notifications about your deliveries.
- Basic technical information such as request logs, used to keep the service secure and working.
We do not store your card details. Card, transfer and USSD payments are handled entirely by Paystack.
How we use it
- To price, arrange, track and complete deliveries.
- To verify that riders are who they say they are.
- To take payments, issue refunds and pay riders.
- To send you notifications and one-time sign-in codes.
- To prevent fraud, resolve disputes and keep the service safe.
- To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.
Who we share it with
- Riders and customers, only as needed for a delivery. A rider sees pickup and drop-off addresses and contact details once they accept a job. A customer sees their rider’s name, phone number and live location during the delivery.
- Service providers who run parts of 9jaSend for us: Paystack (payments and payouts), Google Maps (addresses, maps and routes), Firebase (notifications), Amazon Web Services (hosting and storage), an identity verification provider (NIN checks) and an SMS provider (sign-in codes).
- Authorities, when the law requires it or to protect someone’s safety.
We do not sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account we remove your personal information, except records we must keep by law, such as payment and tax records, which we keep only for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is wrong;
- ask us to delete your information (see how to delete your account);
- object to or ask us to restrict how we use your information;
- complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Keeping it safe
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Sensitive identifiers such as NINs are encrypted separately. Access is limited to the people and systems that need it to run the service.
Children
9jaSend is not for children. Riders must be at least 18 years old.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
