Payments
How payments work
Last updated 15 October 2026
This page explains, step by step, how money moves when you send a package with 9jaSend: what customers pay and when, how and when riders are paid, how cash on delivery works, and how refunds work.
1. Booking and paying
- You enter the pickup and drop-off addresses. The app shows the delivery fee, worked out from the road distance, before you book. That price does not change when the rider arrives.
- You choose how to pay:
- Online by card, bank transfer or USSD, through Paystack. You pay 9jaSend when you book, before a rider is assigned.
- Cash on delivery: you pay the rider in cash. Nothing is paid online.
- Once an online order is paid, or straight away for a cash order, we offer the job to nearby riders. The first rider to accept it collects the package.
2. Delivery
Every order has two 4-digit PINs. The sender gives the rider the pickup PIN when handing over the package. The receiver gives the delivery PIN at drop-off. A delivery is only complete when the rider enters the correct delivery PIN, so a rider can’t mark a package delivered without meeting the receiver.
3. How riders are paid
9jaSend keeps a commission on each delivery fee. Riders see their take-home amount on every job offer before accepting it, and the commission is fixed when they accept.
Jobs paid online: paid after every delivery
- When: immediately. As soon as the receiver’s PIN confirms the delivery, the rider’s share is sent to their bank account by Paystack transfer. It usually arrives within minutes.
- Where: the rider’s own Nigerian bank account, added in the 9jaSend Rider app. The bank confirms the account name, and it must match the rider’s verified identity. If it doesn’t, our team checks it before any payment is made. Riders need a verified account before they can take jobs paid online.
- If a transfer fails (for example, the rider’s bank is down), we try again automatically within minutes, several times. Riders can also retry it themselves in the app.
- 9jaSend pays the transfer fee. Riders receive their full share.
Riders do not request withdrawals, and 9jaSend doesn’t hold their earnings to pay out later. Each delivery is paid on its own, as soon as it is completed.
Cash on delivery jobs
- The rider collects the delivery fee in cash from the customer and keeps their share.
- The rider owes 9jaSend its commission on that job. They pay it by bank transfer directly into 9jaSend’s business bank account, shown in the Rider app. Cash commission is never paid, collected or deducted through Paystack, and never taken out of a rider’s earnings from online jobs.
- Once we confirm the transfer has arrived, usually within one working day, the amount is cleared in the rider’s app.
- Each rider has a limit on how much commission they can owe. A rider who reaches it stops receiving cash jobs until they pay, but can still take jobs paid online.
4. Cancellations and refunds
- No rider found: if no rider accepts an order in time, it is cancelled. If you paid online, a full refund starts automatically.
- You cancel: you can cancel an order until the rider has picked up the package. If you paid online, you get a full refund.
- Refunds go back to the card or account you paid with, through Paystack. They usually arrive within 5 to 10 working days, depending on your bank.
- Once the package has been picked up, the order can’t be cancelled.
Payout timelines at a glance
- Rider, jobs paid online: immediately after each delivery, usually within minutes.
- Rider, cash jobs: the rider keeps the cash on delivery and pays 9jaSend its commission by bank transfer.
- Customer refunds: start immediately and usually arrive within 5 to 10 working days.
